Kemps quay (southampton)

evening all,
well me and fingers fished an almost untouched fishing spot today ,
kemps quay , with the code to the gate and security guard on side ,it was looking good , reports of a 7 1/2 lb bass caught there last week by another boat owner, i used 2 rods on 1, end tackle being a 1 up 1 down , size 1 hooks baited with ragworm as this is a flounder hot spot as well , on the other pennel pulley , size 4/0 and 2/0 hooks , baits were whole squid ,and mackeral fillets , not forgetting the local delicacy of mussels which were plentiful around the pontoons , arrived at 10.30 only a hour late for me , tide was well on the run in , the sun was beating down , still very cold though , so up with the gear , ........
first cast for fingers produced this fine flounder , on rag ..........

second cast for me and im in, again a flounder on rag ,.........

then as the tide hit high ,the mullet started showing , so off with the rig and just a size 4 hook packed with bread , groundbaited the area , and sent the hook and bread in the middle of it all , mullet coming straight for it !!!! then swam straight through it without even a sniff, damn these mullet ,
kept trying for about an hour , and with no harpoon and no shotgun , we werent going to catch any , little buggers lol , so went back to the rig and rag , and in no time another flattie for me ...........

as the mullet were swimming past showing us the bird , and p*****g themselves laughing at us , we decided to ignore them , and keep at the flatties , then i had another ........

as the tide ebbed all went quiet , so i stuck on a flounder spoon , and after a few casts had another 1 small so it went straight back in without a photo shoot , most flounder were quite big but very light due to spawning , and were all returned to fatten up , a very nice day and a 5 flounder for us ,unfortunately the big bait rod didnt even twitch all day , despite constant changing and re arranging of baits lol , the best flounder session for me this year with 4 flounder , so its back very soon to this venue which im sure in the summer is going to produce some big bass !!!!!!!!!
cheers fingers for a great day ,

lee.

Re: Kemps quay (southampton)

Exclusive marks now then is it Lee? Isn't it just grand when you can fish away from the hoy poloy?? Much more relaxing with no riff raff around don't cha know!

Well done mate.. Good report.
