| Re: Is this a skate? The second one is 100% a Butterfly Ray (Gymnuridae) and not a bad size either. I caught several last year; all were common to the area except one; which was most probably the Maderia Butterfly Ray (Gymnura hirundo), not seen since first described in 1843. I contacted IGFA to try and claim the Shore/World record :-) but with only photos of the fish and me playing it in and releasing it they wouldn't entertain the claim...no dead fish - no claim !!!! I even tried to get Southampton University Ocanagraphic lot involved in the identification....'brick-wall' !!!! |
