Catchalot report (last weekend)

Hiya,
Went up to LA for the first serious weekends fishing since the start of
June

The crew consisted of Jabee, Guy (who kindly supplied all the epoxy
paint, his pal Tommy, Linda and myself.

Saturday started off with jabee sneaking out two pressies in the shape
of custom built rods for Linda and myself that were quickly set up ready
to be tested. First task was to get some bait, not much of a problem as
we hit the Mackies right away and they were coming in thick and fast
(unlike on Norries boat :P )

As the tide was in the right state for anchoring we headed off for one
of my skate marks. Around an hour into the session my new rod folded
over and was well and truly christened with a female of 167lb. Jabee was
next up with a feisty male of 117lb which went ballistic when it hit the
surface. Once the tide turned we headed off for a mess about with the
Pollack and hunting for species.. with not much luck. Guy had a few
Pollack of around 3lb with Linda adding some Coalies to the bait supply
we ended up giving up on the species as we couldn't get by the hoards of
small Cod that were nailing everything that you sent down.

Next stop was my surprise to the crew as we went in to pick up Hugh and
his son for the evening session as unbeknown to them I had arranged it
the week before. We anchored up just off Lochaline in nearly 400' of
water and dropped the baits down. Young Oscar started with a steady
stream of LSD's then a couple of Spurs including a PB fish of 5lb 3oz.
On a bait check Guy tightened in to what he thought was a small skate so
the rod was duly passed over to Hugh who after an un eventful fight,
brought the biggest Kelpie I have ever seen to the side of the boat

Hugh didn't have long to wait as the new rod folded over and he was soon
into a proper skate which he took in his stride and soon boated a
cracking male of 126lb. It was then a case of pack up and get back to LA
for the BBQ that Dave & Norma had arranged

Sunday seen us back out on the first mark we fished with Dave & Norma
joining us. Tommy was the first to get into a skate producing a female
of 174lb.. again on my new rod, then Guy and Jabee had a double hook up
that produced a new PB for Guy of 183lb and a 178lber for jabee.

After the skate we had another go for species but again the small Cod
were a problem so we gave up and headed in.

All in all a superb weekend

The skate were as follows:

Jabee : 117lb male and 178lb Female
Guy: 183lb Female
Tommy: 174lb Female
Hugh Fearley-Whittingstall: 126lb male
myself: 167lb Female.

here are a few pics

Jabee brought a couple of prezzies up for Linda and myself in the shape of custom built rods for us both and a new reel for me. not wanting to miss a chance I had the reel loaded with braid and set up within about 15 min of receiving it smile.gif

It also turned out to be the most productive rod of the weekend with 3 skate falling to it, below is me hooked into the first, my 167lber... it bends well for a 80lb class smile.gif smile.gif

We also had the Sounnd of Mull tea room open, which as usual attracted some riffraff

Guy had some problems moving his fish and just to add to the fun it decided to make a couple of runs round my line:

Here is Tommy with his fish:
