Braid > shockleader knot ?

Anyone use braid and a shockleader - what knot is best to join the 2 - trying my usual Allbright knot but is there anything better

Re: Braid > shockleader knot ?

I use braid right though and do away with shock leader. This gives me better bite indication and less drag in a fast flowing tide. A lot of anglers will frown on this but its my preference. So there! Tight lines

Braid strength is unimportant - the mono is there as both a shock absorber and a rubbing leader - that first 14 foot or so takes all the pounding and is most succeptible to wear and tear . I personally use 25lb clear mono with 28 lb braid and attach it by making a loop in the mono - pulling through about 8 inches of braid through the loop before pulling it tight..then go 6 turns round the mono away from the loop and 3 turns back .
For heavier shockleader i blob the end by heating with a lighter and then tie up to it by forming a loop in the braid - going 6 turns round this loop and then pulling up tight to the tag end - this makes a tiny knot and ive never had one give way yet - even with pollack to 20lb !

Re: Braid > shockleader knot ?

Well i have never had a problem with my braid and I can smash a cast 200yrds with a 6oz weight. If you use 60lb shockleader in a fast running tide the thickness will create drag in comparison to thin braid. And no knot means no chance of taking out one of your ring eyes.
