| Re: Braid > shockleader knot ? I use a mono leader with all my braid setups. Usually a higher rated mono since the braid has a higher breaking strain than specified. e.g. 15lb Braid to 20lb mono. I always use a double uni-knot. Sometimes I double-over the braid to increase the braid thickness which helps create a stronger knot when using the double uni. If the braid is too thin and the mono too thick, the braid will slice it up! Good luck! |

| Re: Braid > shockleader knot ? I use 30 lb braid when loat fishing for Bass/Wrasse and 40lb Rubbing leader of about 20ft. I use a simple overhand knot in the mono and through the eye I attach my braid with a uni knot never had a problem make sure you lube well before tightening. __________________ There is a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot. |

| Re: Braid > shockleader knot ? Now now girls - no handbags This is a 2007 post when I started to cast with braid but it was such a balls ache I gave up and stuck to 15/18lb mono & the usual 60lb shock. I did discover the braid tied well to a shockleader with an 'allbright but with extra turns with the braid. Personally, I think I would always use a mono 'end of some description for a rubbing leader and a little bit of 'give in the line ... As above, gave up using braid a while back until I discovered the Yak - now use braid all the time for spinning etc - cant beat it BUT still use a 1-3m length of flurocarbon for a bit of give but mainly for the 'invisible qualities of the line ... Shock or not - each to their own - no particular way is the best or right so personal preference as always ... I would use a shock - a mate of mine - good match angler uses 65lb braid straight through - always has done and it suits him ... So back to the question - an allbright knot works with extra turns ... Now go kiss and make up - no tongues though ![]() __________________ SUPPORT THE RNLI - click : www.rnli.org.uk ... every little helps !
