| It doesn't matter what bait you use-presentation is everything!Just slightly different snood lengths, length of main trace, shape of bait -and SIZE of bait-can all make a big difference in your catch.Very often I have used big baits thinking I would catch big fish and had nothing, and then caught decent fish on a tiny bit of bait.It really boils down to being willing -and able-to try different tactics. |

| Re: Sea Fishing snood lengths i agree mate. also differing the rig setup changes the way the bait appears in the water. a longer lighter snood will act more naturally in the tide but is more prone to tangling. shorter snoods will often see fish hook themselves as there is immediate tension as the fish tries to swallow the hook - this can be great for flatfish and whiting fishing but can also result in fish feeling tension and not taking the bait properly... booms can help to pin the hooks on the seabed and again they alter the way the bait is presented on the bottom - they also minimise tangles of snood and rig body. it is a good idea to have a few different traces hanging on a trace bar off your tripod. this enables you to swap traces and pre-bait a rig which speeds up your fishing, ensuring that a rig is in the water as quickly as possible and that u can try different types of rig every cast until you get results! I use a QF Interlocking Swivel at the top of every trace I tie which means you can quickly swap rigs very easily! |
