Re: re keeping live sand eels Hi Peter, Umm use my aerator a lot. Cost me about 20 notes it is about 16" by 10" and 12" deep. good thing about it is it has an internal collander type shell that you can lift out to pick out the sandeel of your choice. Even in such a small space they can be incredibly difficult to grab if swimming free. A "scoop" of eels at Teignmouth costs 4 quid and lasts 3 anglers all day, after about 4 hours they look dead till you try and pick them up! Don't know how long you've used them from a boat and don't want to teach grandma to suck eggs but the usual way of hooking them ie up through bottom lip is hopeless if drifting. I know it's horrible but the only way to get them to stay on is through both eyes. Stay safe. Jules. __________________ born to fish....forced to work

Re: re keeping live sand eels Hi Peter, It's odd as all commercial boys use live eels, but I've had a different experience. My 1st year out of Teignmouth all anglers on my boat used lures...mainly 5" silver metal bars. Result? 60+ bass, many macks, gurnard and flounder. 2nd year we discovered the sandeel sellers. Result? Maybe 20 bass smaller generally than 1st year , more macks than 1st year, no gurnard, 1 big 2 1/2 lb flounder. Since then have fished less so cannot comment and maybe my figures are an anomaly. However I am in no hurry to get there in case sandeel sellers have closed. However I always fish shallow water and maybe thats the difference? No reason except I'm a cheapskate and don't want to waste the fuel if there are plenty of fish in close..... My advice....always carry lures!! I guess live eels do have the edge if we go out wrecking but only because they swim out of the wreck so you don't lose so much tackle...dunno how they do it blind! Cheers Jules. __________________ born to fish....forced to work

Re: re keeping live sand eels Take a look at the insulated livebait box from Eddystone Tatler. It has external pockets for two battery operated aerators and two internal pockets for cool blocks to maintain temperature. I got mine from Sea View Tackle & Bait in Plymouth and he was about £10 cheaper than anyone else.
