Re: Using a carp rod as a beachcaster?

Probably a bit light for normal beach casting. Might be OK for Bass & Flatties Though.

Re: Using a carp rod as a beachcaster?

Depends what test curve it is I suppose. I think 2.5lb+ would be fine for light beach fishing.

As long as you're not casting really heavy leads that is.

Re: Using a carp rod as a beachcaster?

Carp rods can be great rods for LIGHT beach work -

- spinning
- targeting flat fish
- float fishing
- working the surf

But as said above they are not built for cast 5oz leads , I use one of about the same test curve and will not go over 2oz lead on it.

Great fun rods for light work but if your going to fish from a beach then as the name suggest you will be better of saving a bit more and getting a beachcaster rod.

Float fishing is mainly done where the beach shelves off a bit or where structures are ( rocks ect ) thus distance is not a great deal . Sea fishing floats are much bigger than freshwater ones and require upto an 1oz of lead on them. Thus distance is not a major problem.

Use a target float, you can cast some of them further than you can see them
