hermit crabs sea fishing bait

Hermit crabs sea fishing bait tip

Ok this is not my tip but something I learnt last time I was out with Gus

Before the trip I have always used fresh Hermit crabs , which ment cracking their shells open to get at the crab itself

So on the trip with Gus and the guys , he brought along frozen hermit crabs as bait for smoothhounds - MMM I thought , frozen as good as fresh hermit crab we will see

But yes I found no difference at all

BUT and the big but for the hemit crabs is -
When using frozen hermit crabs you just shake them out of thier shell thus keeping the shell intact

Gus explained that this way the empty shells are then thrown back into the sea . This means that when a young hermit crabs are ready to grow they have a supply of new empty shells to move into

How simple an idea is that , well done Gus for sharing that great tip with me and the guys and hope you do not mind me posting your tip

Small things like this help

Got a tip post it
