| Re: Simply how to fish. i used to watch a friend of mine hold the line,he would pull off a long loop after the first eye and sit there with it in his hand,as he said he could feel a bite through the line before seeing it at rod tip. tried it myself, but must be a learned tactic,as i could feel every wave, condom and bottom bump,so i was usually striking or reeling on a trojan or the famed black ribbed nobbler, ribbed for her pleasure. |

| Re: Simply how to fish. And another lot of information aimed directly at the bait fisherman. All good stuff too. I usually fish with a Paternoster rig, for the newbies that's a sinker at the bottom and a couple of hooks on leaders above that with the bottom hook high enough to not snag on the sinker and the a swivel above the lot. I use this rig with the rod tip down and the line pulled tight enough that the sinker doesn't move and I can feel the bites. I do strike by lifting the rod tip. These days though I can't be stuffed drowning worms or handling any other bait so most of my sea fishing is with lures. I like to use a squid jag on occasion with a float above that. No striking on that one just pull it in when the float sinks. That's lazy fishing and suits me. I also use a cast and retrieve method with a light spinning rod and open face reel. I prefer a nice little spoon or spinner and bump it across the sandy bottoms hunting flathead. Again, no striking is required as these fish are ambush type hunters and slam the lure nicely. __________________ Is it fair to the fish to use light as a lure? I think so but make up your own mind.
