Re: Crab preparation and hooking peeler crab On the subject of peeler crab, is okay to catch your own in tiles or can only commercial tilers do this. I live at Exmouth and there are supposedly lots of commercial peeler tilers on the stuary and i wouldn't want upset the apple cart but similarly why pay for bait when you can catch your own. thanks for the lesson on how to hook them by the way! Cheers Jason

Re: Crab preparation and hooking peeler crab Sorry Jason, must've missed this one! Crab tiles on the Exe - I've got to be honest and say I'm not sure of the regs. I know the tilers are regulated, but as far as I'm aware these regulations are voluntary. There's some good info at www.exe-estuary.org including the tiler code of conduct, which is again voluntary as far as I'm aware, however it does mention a specific area outside of which it's illegal to place titles. I did start to look at laying traps myself, but to be honest, it's a LOT of time and effort. One thing is for sure though.... NEVER be tempted to raid traps that you haven't got permission to take from. People get grumpy. There's a friend in the club who has traps in the river. Next time I see him, I'll get the low down. __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait?

Re: Crab preparation and hooking peeler crab Great post the only thing i could fault is the peeler should be popping its shell before using ideally however if they are cracking at the sides they can still peel easily....
