You`ve hit the nail on the head there Joe , the vast majority of problems are caused by those 2 factors , And as you`ve already siad practice will eliminate those problems.

The quality of the reel does also have an effect ,the smoother they run ,the less problems you`ll get , so it does pay to get the best reel you can afford .Also keeping the reel in good running order will help no end .

Your very welcome mate, if you would like, once you have brought it I can maybee meet you on the banks of the Thames and help you get to grips with it?
I often fish along the sea school strecth of the river and with the winter coming up im sure I shall be down there quite often.
