Anyone seen the Mackerel yet? And other Mackerel questions! I'm looking for a bit of casual sport with our trusty old friend, the mackerel. Anyone seen them yet? Oh, and I've not caught a mackerel in years. What depth of water do the shoals come to? And at what depth in the water column do they feed? Thanks for your help!

Re: Anyone seen the Mackerel yet? And other Mackerel questions! hi , the mackerel shoals will be at whatever depth the bait fish are, anywhere between the surface and the bottom, they will push the bait fish against the shore in just a couple of feet of water but this is much more likely on steep shingle beaches than shallow sandy ones where they more often stay off shore, high water at dawn or dusk is the best bet- good luck & take no more than you need ![]() __________________ beer so many venues, so little time.

Re: Anyone seen the Mackerel yet? And other Mackerel questions! It seems to me that there are more Mackerel around this year that I can remember for many a year. We have had them down on Chesil in good numbers for almost 2 months now. During the early part of the season they do see to be out a little bit further and deeper. But as Geejayy says they can be at any depth. You just need to vary your depth on each cast till you find them. The best lures you can use in my opinion are Daylight's __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk
