Coloured Line

What are everyones opinion of coloured lines,be it mono or braid.I've never used it myself but would like to give it a go as its easier to keep track of.Only thing is i do mostly estuary and surf fishing.Ive read that coloured lines, especially red, need to be used in deep water if their to avoid detection from fish.

Re: Coloured Line

Red ice is a very popular mono from Ultima and i have used it in the past but recently swapped over to Ultimas F1 which is a smoky titanium colour.. I always use orange greased weasel for shockleaders and on the boat i use white dynon 3000 with clear mono leader ..think it's all about what you have confidence in mate

Re: Coloured Line

Cheers for that Scottish.Bit the bullet yesterday and bought some yellow mono. Also got some flurocarbon to have for traces.Have read that fluro can be difficult to tie and can be quite brittle.Never used it before. Is this the case ?

Flourocarbon is very supple ( is that even a word ? ive still hungover ! ) and smooth which means a few extra turns are required on the knot ..I personaly think it has too much stretch so prefer to use amnesia ..
It does have its place but its more for hunting down wary fish but if you get on with it let me know..i have a brand new spool of it here you can have
Steve

ps. the yellow mono is fine .. infact most tournament mono including Daiwas is a bright yellow

If your talking about making up hook lengths for general fishing then yes mate, .. the higher abrasion of something like amnesia is required for shore fishing ..Florocarbon is good on the boat for drift fishing and could be used effectivley under a float or when 'freelining' ..
Avoid using lenghts of mono cut off a spool of mainline ... this will kink, tangle, stretch and cause more dramas than its worth ..

My bet would be 30lb black amnesia for heavier / night rigs and 20/25lb clear for everything else.. bout 3 quid a spool buddy ..
I use Ultima trace body in 70lb for the main rig body and it works fine
Steve

Re: Coloured Line

Its actually for lure fishing. Its just so i hevn't got yellow line going directly to the lure so its less obvious to the Bass.

Re: Coloured Line

Hi Nad,

I use about three/four foot of clear mono for a leader for lure's. Bout 20 /25lb, I use a clip to attach it to the lure so I can change lure if I need to. I wouldn't use that sort of BS for casting leads, but a lure should be fine. I agree with Scottish about amnesia, great for rigs!

Steve

Re: Coloured Line

any coloured line is ok for the reel, but no good for snoods, clear line only for snoods, i use hi-viz line for my shook leaders makes it easy to see them on the way in, hope this helps Boo.
