hook snoods guys i use a 15lb mainline and 60lb leader then on my rig i use 20lb hook snoods but i was thinking if i get snagged up by the hook length because its 20lb my 15lb mainline will snap first so i was thinking of using a 12lb hook snood then if that should snap first resulting in return of all you rig and leader less your hook length .what do you guys use???????and this will not leave another set of tackle on the sea bed somewhere waiting for the next angler to cast his gear into it __________________ He who dares wins!!!!!! www.norfolkoi.co.uk (koi carp importers) Rollesby angling centre (Norfolk)15% discount for all forum members(no discount on bait)

Re: hook snoods i think you have a point there delboy ,may be worth using a lesser breaking strain than the main line especialy on rough ground.in fact i already use 18lb main line with 15lb snoods, may reduce the snoods to 12lb !see if i can save myself some gear ![]()

Re: hook snoods i not bothered about the cost of the the gear is the amout thats getting left in the sea and by using a lighter hook snood maybe would lose less tackle, got to be good for the enviroment too being honest by using a 12lb hook length how many of us catch fish over 12lb from the shore if just fishing for cod and dabs and whiting __________________ He who dares wins!!!!!! www.norfolkoi.co.uk (koi carp importers) Rollesby angling centre (Norfolk)15% discount for all forum members(no discount on bait)

| Re: hook snoods Its usually the weight or the hook that gets snagged on rough/weedy ground. So when fishing this type of ground I tend to use a thinner wire hook. This tends to straighten out under pressure thus returning my whole rig back to me. Some people use a rotten bottom as a means of retreving there rig less the weight but I must admit, I tend not to bother. Also the type of rig you use also helps. For mixed and rough ground I always use a the trusty Pulley rig. __________________ Kia ora / Dia dhuit. - Matauranga kei ana kaha. | Re: hook snoods What i would say is 12lb snoods will tangle VERY easily, I personally use 25lb memorex, as it will not tangle and spin as easily. As for losign less rigs, it is always either the lead or hook that gets snagged, use a bendy hook, dont worry, they will land any fish you will be likely to hook, and they will bend out in a snag. |

Re: hook snoods Paul, I use memorex, but in my video recorder! Whatd this your referring too? A make of line? I presume by its name it stays in one position? ![]() __________________ Come on you Irons

Re: hook snoods Yea lol, the make dont really matter. The point i was making is that i use heavier snoods cuz of less tangles and twists. And if you use light wire hooks they will just bend out in a snag.

Re: hook snoods i use memorex alot and found when we were getting loadsa whiting when boat fishing in a strong current the line was just twisting them off:@ not happy musta happened about 5-6 times once the current picked up, kinda gone off memorex now __________________ Bens The Name And Catchings The Game Anti the Anti's
