Re: Rod Tip Light – Seeing your rod tip at night Probably shouldn't admit this this but I am new this fishing game so what the heck. Warning: always remove the rod tip light when casting (if using the slide on lights) otherwise you will experience what first appears to be a spectacular green or red shooting star flying towards the surf only to realise that's another six quid in the crapper! Still you live, you learn! Am going to North Cornwall this weekend hoping for Bass, anybody know if SandEel is still the bait to use or should I be trying something else?

Re: Rod Tip Light – Seeing your rod tip at night Just thought I would add to this one rather than create a new thread. Them Pound shops do the same batteries as part of a card of them for a £1. This gives you enough to do about 8 replacements. Recently though I was steered away from tip lights as the general feeling was they can catch line and even damage your rod permanently. I experimented with just using my headlamp on a low setting and using a light reflective tape. This is fine and is all that is needed. Best tip tape I have found is "Mighty Bright" and there is a video on applications at mightybright.co.uk I bought some of the white and blue and it looks very classy on the rods, shows up very bright even when you have wandered up the beach to talk to a mate. This will not invalidate rod guarantees and allows the rod to flex as it should without creating a stress point. Hope this helps.

Re: Rod Tip Light – Seeing your rod tip at night On the subject of rod tips and night fishing - 30 years or so of messing around with every gadget/paraffin lamp/luminol based night stick etc has led (not LED!) me to the following ..... 1. You don't need to spend upwards of £100 or so for a pro caving lamp for most beach fishing. Clambering over slippery rocks at night might be worth the investment. 2. A simple PETZL lamp coupled to a 6v 4Ahr lead acid rechargeable battery will give you adequate light for a 6-8hr session. Brilliant batteries available from - http://www.component-shop.co.uk/html/lead-acid.html (6v 4AHr £3-90). 3. A good multi-LED and bulk-pack AA batteries is a good investment for short sessions/spare - http://www.netpcdirect.co.uk/led_head_torches.php 4. A tripod lamp can be made from almost any 'Pound Shop' handtorch with a bit of ingenuity, soldering iron, drill, 5amp lighting wire and the battery as above. ![]() ![]() Hope that's useful .............

Re: Rod Tip Light – Seeing your rod tip at night Chemical snap and strap lights get my vote because you can see them so easily. They even glow weakly 24 hours later. Watch the hallucinations mind if you are in the habit of walking down to the beach and imbibing. No you strap them to your rod not smoke or sniff them, bl@@@y chavs. __________________ Just remember, not all the heroes died. www.helpforheroes.org.uk
