Oval Split rings for sea fishing

Oval Split rings for sea fishing

These are oval split ring design for connecting line, rigs and leads to your mainline or rig

I was converted to these about 18 months ago and their advantages are that they are stronger than snap swivels when lumping out lead whilst casting or when using heavy leads from the boat ( as mention by members on this forum ) and are less fiddly than snap swivels especially in the cold and wet

Oval split rings are as a rule made from nickel plated steel, which makes them rust resistant. The most common sizes are from 1/0 (small) to 3/0

They are ideal for connecting your main line to your rig as the oval split ring enable fast changing of rigs

So got and additional tips or advice on using oval split rings or have a question you would like the fishing forum members to answer just post below

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

i use these quite often, find them better than snap links n other things, not only that but recently i ahve been tightening a knot with my leatherman just grabing onto a snap link n it has given way on 2 seperate occasions, this has put me off of snap links
you were saying about being rust resitsant, they are as long as you dont use them, once you have used them once or twice the nickle comes off n you are left with a slightly rust clip

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

i used to use them but they rust to much for my liking so now using a different link think its called an easi link by breakaway seem to have a different coating on much easier to release than oval split rings only been using them for a few weeks and still no rust much more stream lined too

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

I have been using things called breakaway fastlinks for years now and they are very strong with no signs of rust.
