there are + and - for all types of fishing gear ,what will do better for what occastion etc.
but i do like the gemini link swivel, i find it's good for boat fishing
easy to and quick to use for weights and end gear

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

I was quite suprised when I just looked in my box and saw so many different styles of these links.
Ive gathered quite a few over the years.
The one I always use is the first one on the left.

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

Just a point from the casting side of the fence , it is a rule at all tournaments that your lead must be attached to your shock leader by use of a totally enclosed link ,an oval, fast link etc ,a snap swivel or the like must not be used for any sort of power casting as they are not strong enough.
Although the gemini fastlink is very strong because it has an open top it is possible to bounce a lead out of the clip should you hit the ground during the cast when using any form of airialised cast .
Always go for safety ,hitting someone with 5or 6 ozs of lead under load does'nt bear thinking about .

Hi Mike,

I agree with you 100%, the others are not worth bothering about. These do not rust and can be used time and time again.

Cheers

Drew

i used to use the splits but now it's genie links all the time for me.

imo they're quicker and more stream lined with the same strength.

Cant wait for a trip where I'd need those sizes!

Re: Oval Split rings for sea fishing

I tend to use Fastlinks and Spinlinks (depending on tip ring size) on my shockleader. All my traces have 80lb rolling swivels at the top and terminate in Gemini link clips. I use snood swivels along the traces and attach snoods with Gemini mini clips (or snood clips). The only time I use snap-swivels now is to slide a float rig down my line, when ledgering from piers etc.

My tackle box is an Aladdin's cave of all sorts of crap that I've collected but I find I'm now tending to almost exclusive use of Gemini terminal gear
