| leads - Sea Fishing information There are lots of different kinds and sizes of leads for different tides, conditions etc. The most common kind is the normal round and pear shape leads. They come in all sizes and are used for all kinds of fishing when the tide isn’t too strong. They are quite cheap and you can also make them quite easily if you have a mould etc. they wont hold bottom very well but they are good if the tide isn’t strong or you want the lead to move around a bit. Another kind is grip leads. There are different kinds of these including fixed wires, breakaways and uptiders. These are used in stronger tides when a normal lead won’t hold and when uptiding. The fixed wires are used when the breakaways won’t hold. You will lose them more often but they will help you keep your tackle in one place. You can also get impact versions of these. They have clips on the top so you can clip your bait down on them instead of using a bait clip or impact shield. This makes your rig cast better and protects your bait. The breakaways are designed so the wires bend out when you pull it. This helps you grip the bottom then when you reel in they will break out so you can bring it in. They work like the fixed wires at 1st but when you reel in they will break out so you have more chance of getting your gear back. The uptide leads have very long wires and they are fixed but are quite soft so they bend easily. They will fix into the bottom then when you pull, the wires will bend out so you get them back again. Watch leads are a different kind of lead. They are normal leads just a different shape which hold bottom better and don’t roll. Star leads are like this but a different shape again. You don’t see these very often. Grip leads and normal leads are used the most. Ball weights are used mostly for float fishing. They slide on the line instead of being tied on. They are also used when spinning and bassing when you need some extra casting weight. __________________ New site! sea fishing devon Last edited by Fishing Forum Admin; 11-23-2004 at 10:35 AM. |
