| Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2 Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2 (although covered before in various threads thought I would put in its own dedicated thread ) Shockleader what is it ? A Shockleader is a length of monofilament line that is designed to absorb the pressure of casting weights when shore fishing or when boat fishing using braid line ect Shockleader generally comes on spools of 20 meter lengths to 70 meter lengths and have a greater elasticity than standard monofilament fishing line There are new tapered shockleaders on the market that start at e.g 15lb (the end you connect to your main line and then increase to 60lb ) these look great - as wellyfish and kiwi showed me the last time we fished together When and how to use a Shockleader When shores fishing, you are casting lead weights under great pressure, which can and does result in your main line snapping This is very dangerous and can cause great danger to other people around you whilst fishing (the lead weight can be like a small cannon ball) so always use a Shockleader!! As a rule of thumb 1 oz lead weight you will need 10lb of breaking strain Shockleader 4oz lead weight 40lb and so on Joining your main line to your Shockleader Click Here for a great and easy to follow knot So got and additional tips or advice on using Shockleader or have a question you would like the fishing forum members to answer just post below __________________ Richard Fishing Tackle | Sea Fishing |Carp Fishing| Spud Gun | Zander fishing | Fishing Reports | Hunting Reports Last edited by Fishing Forum Admin; 05-22-2006 at 06:41 PM. |

| Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2 nice write up richard..just to add that i use the tapered ones because i have a level wind on my reels and like to keep the knot as small as possible so it dosent catch on this when casting, resulting in mahooosive birds nest... ![]() |

| Great write up Proffessor I don't use a level wind Multiplier they are for wussies, I always use a bimini twist knot, as this has enormous strength and is dead easy to tie and a small knot. __________________ Eventually all things merge into one, and a River runs through it. | Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2 I know that if the unused is kept out of sunlight and wrapped in kitchen foil it will keep longer, any idea how long before best to discard? __________________ Come on you Irons |

| Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2 shore it should be slighty longer than the rod, long enough to have 5-6 turns of it on the reel, maybe more, not quite sure about boat __________________ Bens The Name And Catchings The Game Anti the Anti's |
