Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2

I use a 6 turn Albright knot...... this gives a knot width no greater than 1.2mm, it is tricky knot to master, but is very strong.

No Problem Roney, that is what this forum is all about.

I have fished in Malaysia off Langkawi for Barracuda and Groupers. I worked for Sime Tyres and Sime Darby so used to visit KL and Alor Setar quite a lot.

I even fished the Lake in front of the Holiday Villas in KL, near to the croodile Restaurant!

Happy Days

Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2

Ive had some great advise about shock leaders. Thanks to all.
Have now bought tapered ones. They are 43ft/13m long how much of this do i need? my rod is 12ft so is it twice rod lenght plus 5/6 turns? (which would be about 30ft odd) if so do i trim line from the heavy end or the weaker end?!? bearing in mind i have a multiplier with level wind and knot sizes are an issue.

cheers

Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2

good thread richard, these questions gets asked so many times.

with tapered leaders often the tapered end gets real fine,
when joining to main line trim back to approx diameter of your main line .

if you 're useing 20lb main and the leader tapers from 60lb-15lb joining directly to the end is gonna give a weak point.

Re: Shockleader – Fishing Line Part 2

very well said, shockleader is a must have its for safety of you and others. However, i dont knot my shockleader, i find melting the lines together, in a safe, and reliable way works absolutely fine, previous times ihave said this to people they laugh, but they soon look a fool when i show them it in action.
