Re: Unhooking Fish Hmmm doubt it, I mean it might possibly be a less traumatic death, but the fish won't survive. I rekon they should design a hook that dissolves when u pour a certain (non-toxic to fish) chemical on it. So if u can't get the hook out, just pour it down the fish's throat, the hook dissolves and the fish swims away unscathed. Now just to find the chemical hmmmm... ![]()

Re: Unhooking Fish How can they get rid of a barbed hook which is lodged in their throat/stomach? Has anyone done experiments? It would be great if it was true, but I find it very hard to believe...

Re: Unhooking Fish I dont know how they do it,and i am sure experiments have been done. I caught a pollack a while back that had a length of line coming out of its mouth and was deeply hooked yet it still took my bait and was in good condition.

Re: Unhooking Fish Hmm, may have only been hooked for a little while though... I'll google it...

Re: Unhooking Fish Woow, >link<. It seems the fish have already thought of my genius plan. Thats very impressive. Maybe it is true after all... Would be great if it was. "Their body fluids contain a substance that can literally dissolve a hook within a matter of days." "Biologists I have interviewed in the past have provided me with data indicating the high acid content that dissolves the hook." "Fisheries biologists confirm that the survival rate is extremely high if we simply leave the hook and cut the line." Thats soo cool, no more desperately massacring my fish with a discourger in an attempt to get the hook out!
