float snag.

Hi,

I was float fishing the other day, and I got snagged so I walked backwards until the line snapped, but it snapped at the hook so all my gear except the hook was saved. I was just thinking surely if you tied a slightly weaker/worse Knot attaching the hook, then when it snapped you would save a lot of gear. Has this already been thought of? Is it feasible?

Saul.

spot on

normally use 12lb line to the float swivel and weight and a hooklength of 8lb...normally the hooklength will go and more reliable than tying a knot badly on purpose.

tight lines

dunno if its just something that is done down here......but personally i would use 15-20lb section of line attached to a swivel at each end....with just the weight on it......as found the weight can weaken the mainline....whilst its running up and down ect

i hope that made sense!

i agree with the weaker hooklength though

Re: float snag.

I always build with a swivel below float and that will also act as a weak link, and easier to use lighter line below

hope pic makes sense
the area in left bracket i will use heavier line if useing a big float with say a 1-2oz weight and casting repeatedly or far
