Re: Home made Mackerel feathers !

Registered on this site purely for this thread and to say thank you. Google threw up this site and since I have read the tutorial I have made dozens of these. As a novice angler I constantly find my self snagging up on rocks, weeds or whatever else I find but at least with these I dont feel so bad loosing them.

I went with the Asda smart price 74p for 20m washing line in white, and now pinch my other half nail polish to add some colour.

So in my best Blue Peter accent - here's some I made earlier ... best bit FREE - well apart from the 99p washing line ... should be able to make 998 sets from one washing line !

As you can see - made from short lengths of washing line (the nylony stuff inside - not the steel wired type !) Absolute doddle to make ... proof will be tommorow off the pier

brilliant post mate, been trying to work out how to make these for time. have made some this morning but have used size 7 eddystone eels instead. will let you know how i get on

Mate i used to live near Brid. In the summer i used to hire a rowing boat from the harbour, paddle out a few hundred yards and catch Dabs and Mackies, great fun on light gear.
I'm not sure if you can still hire the boats.

Mackerel fishing from the Holderness coast is a waste of time due to the coloured water but there is other stuff worth targetting.

feathers arent much good from the shore unless you can find deep water ie a big shingle bank or a pier where they allow feathering ( some dont because of the safety issue ) ..
As stated over dirty water you need to entice fish by smell so big juicy baits will get you among the fish - try mackerel, crab, mussels and lug on smaller size 2 hooks and see how you get on

Re: Home made Mackerel feathers !

if it makes any diffrence i wont be going out there till june i went out last year on a boat and caught mackeral on feathers thats why i was gonna give it a go

ive been researching and ive been told to use a 3 hook flapper rig and ive also found place to fish which was recommended

may also give brid south harbour wall a try but i think most of my fishing will be from skipsea sands where im staying so the kids can be near too

Re: Home made Mackerel feathers !

If your going out in a boat you will get Mackies out in the clear water.
If your at Skipsea it's worth having a bash after Skate with fish or squid baits and don't rule out late Coddling.
Have fun.
PS Have a look on the Holderness Coast fishing forum.
