Re: Home made Mackerel feathers !

Awesome looking lures mate! Don't feather much myself, only for bait, but i tie mine in strings of 3, pull off a yard of leader, 50 or 60lb, don't cut it just yet, but tie 3 blood loops at equal intervals down the line, leave yourself a bit at the bottom for lead clip/swivel, then, take a size 4 or 6 hook, and using a separate length of 15 or 20lb, tie a knotless knot, before commencing the turns down the shank, hold a bit of tinsel/ fluff/ dog fur/bunch of pubes/ antron body wool(!)/ bit of plastic bag, etc along the shank of the hook, whip down the shank with the nylon, but, instead of going back through the eye of the hook the same way, go through the front of the eye, when you have done 3, hold them all together, and trim the nylon to about 6 inches, tie a loop, and do a loop to loop with the blood knots, attach lead clip and swivel, and away you go!!, One thing though, take only what you need, remember conservation will help ensure future sport, and mackerel are more fun on a match rod, one at a time!

Re: Home made Mackerel feathers !

Here you go then - they work a treat - caught a load of Mackerel off the beach alongside my mate - he was using the Hokkai style and I caught more then he did using mine
Feel quite chuffed now - catching fish on your own home made gear !
