which rig for flatties or Bass I have a shore fishing day on Saturday down at hythe and the reports are that it is flatties and bass, shingle bottom and rag baits. I have been told to use wishbone or one up, one down rigs. Any suggestions to hook sizes, snood lengths, or other rigs. Also I have never used beads and sequins as attractors, what are your thoughts on this? I want to tie some rigs and would like to try some different ones. Thanks Mike Last edited by mithrandir; 02-12-2007 at 04:35 PM. Reason: forgot somthing

Re: which rig for flatties or Bass hi mike for where you are going id go for a 1 up 1down with size 1 abberden hooks or some sort of semi strong hook and that will get both if careful, dont use nordic bends if the is chance of a good bass as thay bend out to easy wish bones are ok but i find thay tangle to easy also try to use hooks that are not stainless steel when fishing for flounders, as thay normaly swallow them to deep to retrieve them and its better to let them have a new body pericing for a couple of days cheers john __________________ http://i116.photobucket.com/albums/o...xt80382370.gif

| Re: which rig for flatties or Bass As above really, my 2p worth .... My 'standard Flounder rig for Hythe is/are 3 hook flappers or 2 up 1 down flappers, if you need to clip and go for distance (unlikley) then the Pompey rig. Use 2/4/6 Aberdeen match which should hold a Bass .... I also like to use nordic bends but unlikley to hold a bigger fish but easier to retreive the hook as the Flounders swallow every time ... I have had results with beads, sequins, attractors in all sorts of combinations and plain rigs - caught on all - try them all and see what is catching ! Also try flat leads or watch leads rather than grippers to give a little movement. Agree with the others, wishbones are good but tangle too easily so if you can put up with the tangles - worth a go .... One other method I tried for Flounders was a swimfeeder (stop laughing) stuffed with all the old rag and first cast was a double shot of Flounder and bites regulary so worth trying IMHO .... ![]() For Bass - if you are targeting big bass - use the bigger 2/0 ... 4/0 hooks even but dont think those biggies will be there - if it is Hythe - nearly all will be Schoolies so the flattie rigs will catch those no probs ... __________________ SUPPORT THE RNLI - click : www.rnli.org.uk ... every little helps ! | Re: which rig for flatties or Bass Here's my flounder rig, a dead simple 2 hook flapper. I don't think clips are necessary as where I fish you don't really need any distance. I prefer 2 hooks rather than 3 (I don't think there is more of an advantage fishing an extra hook which takes extra time to bait up is hard to keep on the sea bed, only my opinion) - just so happens I made up a few the other night.... ++Main body 50lb mono - about 18 inches long ++2 Snoods 30lb amnesia - about 12 inches long (top snood an inch below the swivel, bottom hook an inch above the lead link) ++2 hooks - around size 1 or 1/0, these ones are Varivas saltwater champions (lovely hooks, sharp, light, strong) ++15 beads per snood - alternating yellow & orange ++5 sequins per snood - place 1 after every 3 beads ++1 fishtek lumi grub above each hook - this has a dual purpose of extra attractor and bait stop That's it, Robert's yer mother's brother as they say......... __________________ ><((((((*> ><((((((*> ><((((((*> trailer cleaning |

Re: which rig for flatties or Bass Thanks guys. I must do a couple of variants to give it a try. I have always used just a plain baited hook and nnever caught much so I will give the sequins and beads a shot. Mike

Last time I fished there with Cuckoo, I used basic 3 hook flapper rigs, size 2 varivas hooks & four or five beads. I've got a lot of faith in orange beads. Same tactics worked for me at Weston Shore too. Good luck Mike.

Re: which rig for flatties or Bass There was an article in one of the fishing mags a couple of years ago about a guy who used a rig that looked like a $100 firework going off. He had beads, sequins, spoons, bells, rattles, coloured lead, the works, it looked like a Christmas tree on fire. Anyway, point is that while peeps were taking the p1ss out of his rig, he caught bucketloads of fish while those around him caught sh1t. __________________ ><((((((*> ><((((((*> ><((((((*> trailer cleaning

Re: which rig for flatties or Bass I tied a few rigs with all the fancy beads and glitter......I can see the reason behind it to attrack fish but still think they look like little girly jewellery lol...but I'm not complaining if it gets me the bites ![]() __________________ There is certainly something in angling that tends to produce a serenity of the mind." - Washington Irving
