How to make the Up and over Rig

this is my favirote rig from now, it used to be the pulley pennel, but when a fish picks up the bait it will feel very heavy, so this is a step to step on making a up and over rig...

1. get all equipment needed

crimps, snap swivels, swivels, beads, hook length, hooks, rig body, and maybe some more...

2. make the rig body about 3 ft ( 36cm, 70 lb) i would leave about 2 inches more because expecially ultima's line is tough and is hard to make a knot.

and tie on a swivel

3. if you saw sea angler, you would know that there is a diagram of the up and over rig, but i tested his invention he made, it is a paper clip un bended in to a straight wire, then bend to make a circle, then bend that wire 45 degrees down, and bend it at the end about 90 degrees,if you dont want to go through all of this hassle, then just do a bait clip.

4. now put it on like a swivel like this

a few inches below the top swivel

5. now add a swivel quite a few inches above the bottom line, and a bait clip below that. or a impact shield.

6. then tie a snap swivel below the bait clip, now your ready to tie on the hook length .

7. i never measured the hook length because it all depends on your rig body. (about 15lb line)

8. now you can tie on your hook, either a pennel or just a single hook. i made a pennel

then your done! it took me 40 minuites, hope this helps!

thanks, dan.

p.s if i missed anything out, please say!

Re: How to make the Up and over Rig

Nice post Dan.

I do tend to find that this is a rig for clean ground. The long length of the snood is great for seeking out snags and stuff. Like Ping says though, it's supposed to be good for ray (Like I'd know... hurmph )

Re: How to make the Up and over Rig

geejayy's cheapskate method.

components;- hooks, line, 2x gemini rig clips ,ge0040.( with the bait holder, ill try to find a piccy).

tie rig clips to both ends of the rig body (shockleader)by the eyelets.

tie snood to eyelet of one of the clips , hook/s to other end of snood,
snood runs up n over top baitholding clip and clips back down to the other where the lead should be attached.
