circular hooks

i heard this a couple of times now and i would like to know are they circular as the name suggest and what species would you use these hooks for ??
or have i totally missed the gist of the conversations

Yes they look almost circular w/the point curving way into the middle.
The theory is if a fish swallows it it will 'slide' back out, as the fish turns to 'escape' the hook will impale the corner of the mouth only.
I LOVE them but are difficult to find them small enough for my fishing. My fav. is Gamakatsu octopus circles.
Circle hooks are really gaining popularity w/ catfishermen here. (mostly because, for size, they can be sold sea fishing sizes...IMO)

Hi Baitmaster,

I have been using Owner hooks now for several years. As Omaha says the fish are nearly always hooked on the side of the mouth. One other thing, dont strike with them, let the fish hook themselves.
