Re: sling your rotten bottom?

i recon the breakaway system is pretty good for long range. it just clips onto your lead link too.

how far are you gonna need to cast?

remember that a rotten bottom will never be as safe as a lead to link, make sure you double check everything before casting. try and find a place with a far bit of room around you and try not to side cast( cast over your head, not around your body). this way if something does go wrong then nobody should get hurt, leads can be dangerous things if they crack off.

Re: sling your rotten bottom?

Down here on Portland we use old spark plugs. There must be thousands of them on the bottom near Pulpit Rock. I unscrew the tip and put a swivel underneath it then put the tip back on. Fix it on with a rotten bottom link and the good thing is that it doesn't matter how many you lose.

Re: sling your rotten bottom?

you know brighton marina! if you carry on west under the cliffs, thers lots of rough ground! havnt fished it but had a walk out at low tide! nothing realy major but lots of rocky gulleys filled with loads of food like srimp and crabs etc ,(remember ready a feature in one of the mags on it last year! so cant be bad) also a concret wide path to fish from, havnt fished it yet but have been told that the stretch from the marina to peicehaven is a goody for bass, pollock and big eels in the summer! ever fished it mate? i know one of the lads that yoused to work in prime swore by it! said the trick was to get a macky head in one of the gulleys was the key! i recon catching some little pout and smelt prawn etc on the marina and fishing them on a slider could be a goer if i can keep em alive! maybe a good mission in the summer

All the text books say that you should'nt cast too far out for Bass anyway, So it should'nt be too much of an issue. About 30 yards or just behind the third breaker wave is the norn down here on the south coast.

Cat fishermen do that most here, junk yard tackle, using 'junk' for weights. Rusty old bolts, any scraps of junk small/large enough for the purpose. Frequently on Trot lines. Just go in your garage and scrounge around, you'll suprise yourself what you'll find that'll work.
