Question Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

ok.... here's one for you.

I use a running ledger set up......a Zip clip on the shockleader,6 to 8 oz grip weight, a bead and then the swivel. I then tie on 2' ish of super snood and then the hook and bait. When casting I hook the hook over one of the grip weights legs.
But..... invariably when retrieving to check bait etc etc..... what a tangled mess... several times had to start again with the hook link...... super snood once it is tangled just seems to stay wanting to tangle. !!

Any tips on preventing this or is it just a case of..... it happens. ?

I am not one for complicated rigs.... years of Carp fishing taught me that the simpler you fish the more results you get.

Re: Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

I d say your using the wrong type of rig for casting,if you want a longish flowing trace from your lead then try an up and over.
I think clipped down rigs are you answer and they can be made very simple.

Re: Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

hmmmm maybe I wasnt clear enough........ its the snood that comes back all tangled..... all about everything.... and once tangled thats it..... looks like a spring !!!
I have tried clip down rigs.... same happens..... snood is all wound up around shock leader and weight.... right flipping mess.

I think its just the current doing it.... not sure how to cure it though.... giving me a right headache..... not to mention the fact that I am going through snood like there is no tomorrow.

Re: Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

I use 20lb Red Ice main line and 80lb Red Ice shock leader..... but only because I got a job lot mega cheap from a tackle shop closing down. The Super snood is 30lb.
I use 2 casting rods.... a Diawa Sand Storm 13' and a Cormoran Power Surf 16'...... both of which I pendullum cast.... 80 to 150 yrds.

Re: Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

abit of rig tubing over the end of the swivel and along the hook trace for about 3-4inches might do the trick

Re: Tangles !!! grrrrrrrrr

Chaos,

Forget using a running leger rig from the shore. It's designed for no tide or a tide running 1 way (i.e. on a boat) - the action of the waves close to shore will tangle it every time.

There are a variety of rigs you can use - clipping them down aids distance.

You want rigs such as 1,2 or 3 paternoster, pulley rig, 1 up 1 down rig...... or loads more. For fishing big baits I use either a 1 hook paternoster (clipped) or a pulley rig (clipped). For smaller baits I use a 2 or 3 hook paternoster with 6-9" snoods.

Hope this helps
