Shock Leader Knots Afternoon All, Quick question - whenever its weedy out (which is most of the time down here!) i always end up with weed snagging on my shock leader knot. Does anyone use anything to prevent the weed snagging here? i was thinking like a cover of heat shrink tubing or something like that?? Does anyone have any usefull ideas?? Mark ![]()

Re: Shock Leader Knots Have you considered using a heavier line straight through? Of course this will depend on the type of reel your using and what your fishing for whether it would be an option or not. __________________ Steve 2012 Species:Bass,Huss,SS Sea Scorpion,3B/Shore Rockling,Launce,Mackerel,Sand Goby,Sand Smelt,Pollack, Coalie,Conger

Re: Shock Leader Knots i'm currently using 18lb mono with a 50lb shock leader, tied with an Albright knot and a fixed spool reel. Mostly beach casting/Pier work. its bad enough hauling in mountains of weed on my trace, was just wondering how to 'lighten the load' and stop gathering extra weed around the joining knot!

Re: Shock Leader Knots your idea for shrink tube may work, just dont use the one where it needs a high heat to shrink it, could end up damaging line or shock leader __________________ good luck and tight lines chris lifes to short for animosity.

Re: Shock Leader Knots you have to leave the tags on the shock leader knot so the knot dosent catch on the rings on the way out wen casting , and if your using a multiplier with level wind ,wouldn't bother with the rig tube it will catch ,,i use tapered leaders i think they cast better and easier to tie to main line 16 lb to 50 i use

Re: Shock Leader Knots tapered leaders are for people who can't tie a proper knot ![]() Use 50 lb ultima or greased weasel - heat the end with a lighter and touch the end with your finger to make a little blob.. then tie up to the blob with your mainline with a blood knot and pull tight .. I've never had one give way - even with those big smutts earlier in the year and the knot is tiny ! you will still get weed sliding down to the knot but you can pull it straight over and down to your rig, which you just unclip and let the weed fall off . I doubt ( from working in an electronics factory ) that you will find heat shrink that will go down to the .35 you will need on the mainline - it will also sit awkwardly on the spool and could catch coils of line on both the retrieve and the cast .. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting
