which rig please??

Could someone recommend the best rig and hook size for this:
I'm gonna try fishing with live sandeels between 2 headlands over rough ground. The water is quite fast flowing and pretty shallow probably 3ft max. I use a bass spinning rod and cant use heavier weight than 4oz. I need to cast probably about 20m out. I was thinking of using a simple pulley rig and let the current lift my bait of the ground. Thanks

Re: which rig please??

best bet for that would be to use a float ..
Sandeels dont take to kindly to being cast out any distance and unless the hooklength material on the pulley is around 15lb then the sandeel will be too knackered trying to swim because of the weight .you will also find the eel will swim in circles round the pulley body and knit your rig together..
The alternative is to use a drilled bullet of about 3 ounces seperated by a bead and swivel and a hooklength of around 4 foot .thread the hook in through the mouth and out the gill cover then very lightly nick the underbelly and it should swim happily for ages .

Re: which rig please??

Thanks for that. It looks like I will have to use dead sandeel. I have phoned all the shop in town and nobody has alive ones!!! The float might work quite well with dead one.

Re: which rig please??

You might want to give these a try, Sidewinder Holographic ,they are
on par with dead eels ,and a packet will last you ages ,much better value than dead eels that last 1 cast

Weighted 4" Sidewinder shads are worth a try too, as are the savage gear weighted small fish lures ...

Those eels are great Mike, stay on the hook very well and dont fall to bits like a lot of the jelly worms after a few fish. Shimmer eels i think they call them. Think they were around £4 a pack.
Caught me plenty pollack!
