Cool "Old Smoothy" - Wishbone rig

For those of you who have asked in the past for the “Smoothy” Blood Loop Wishbone Flounder rig, here is a step-by-step guide to tying it.

First, make a good-sized loop of line say 2-3 feet of line looped back on itself.

Then hold one side of the loop tightly in your left hand between finger and thumb, take the other part of the loop coming off from the one you are holding (not the straight part) and pass that part of the loop 3 times through the loop you have made, taking care not to pull the whole of the loop through. This action will put 6 turns over the static line.

Then pass the big loop through the middle of the 6 turns you have formed.

Now here’s the tricky bit hold the line in both hands wet the turns of line you have formed and put the loop that you have passed through the middle of the 6 turns you have formed…..in your mouth. You need to hold the loop whilst you tighten up the knot.
Or if doing this at home, find a convenient place to anchor the formed loop in the middle of the turns and start to pull tight, making sure the knot is moistened first. Keep the loop as large as you can, you can always trim back afterwards.

If done correctly it should look like this.

Then take a pair of sharp scissors and cut the line close to the knot on the underside….not the top… the line will then “spring” open. I have shown this knot using 80lb mono, but I normally tie it using 25lb Fluro carbon line.

After its cut it should look like this:

Tie on a swivel at one end, this is to your main line.
Once tied you can add coloured beads and or sequins to you r snood lengths, before tying your hooks on. I normally tie on size 3’s / 4’s and 2’s / 1’s depending on the size of fish being fished for.

You can add a swivel to the line and form a blood loop with a swivel coming off it…this is very useful for Doggy fishing from a boat and you can have 3 loops holding swivels and catch 3 fish at once! They spin when bringing them to the side of the boat, but won’t put a twist in your line because of the swivels.

Enjoy...........

Re: "Old Smoothy" - Wishbone rig

Having used this rig of yours Shaun im so glad you have shown us how to make it.

I personally love nice big colourful pictures to show me how to do it as a description is sometimes difficult to follow.

Cheers matey.

Kiwi.

Good luck Fluff...you'll catch em with this rig Don't forget you'll need Maddies as best bait tipped with a small piece of frozen peeler crab if they are not responding

I have had great success with flatties from a drifting boat on the wishbone its a good allrounder rig for them.
