Talking What to Buy?

I bow at the feet of the knowledgable Lads! Hubby has good sea fishin gear for going out from Ayr and Gourock ( West coast Scotland) but have planned a hol this year in Isle of Wight and he tells me his gear ain't strong enough for the channel currents and is in a big huff. What should I buy him that won't be horribly expensive , will do the job and put a happy face on auld grumpy?

Ta Boys x

Hi Fishin Widow, Welcome aboard

First does he shore fish or boat fish?

Second how much is your budget?

Re: What to Buy?

If it's boat fishing he wants to do all you need to get him is some braid line,it is much thinner than normal monofilament and is ideal for use in strong tide runs.

Re: What to Buy?

He's a very very lucky man to have a wife like you , I wish my Mrs would buy me some new gear without me even having to ask.
I'll let the boys carry on with what to buy him.

Wink Re: What to Buy?

OOOh thanks I thought you lot were givin me the bodyswerve there phew! It's boat fishin and a 'expert' from the nwac site has said to buy him an Abu Esprite beach caster as it is is rated upto 8oz casting weight along with a multiplier like an Abu CS 6500 Rocket or fixed Spool Shimano Aerlex.Fixed spool option is within my budget but not sure if it would generate a happy face! Also any recommendations for boat fishin trips from the IOW, we're booked into a site near Shanklin from the 9th of July till the 23rd.

Thanks again guys x

Re: What to Buy?

If it was me, although I like surprises, I think to be on the safe side you should take him with you so he can have a look at exactly what he wants.
Just imagine if you got something and it was wrong, he'll put a brave face on but inside he'll be gutted that he might have to change it and hurt your feelings.

Re: What to Buy?

I just noticed that he's gonna be doing boat fishing, in that case then dont buy him a BEACHCASTER.These as the name suggests are used from the beach.

Re: What to Buy?

Missold by an 'expert' - not impressed - maybe he was havin a blonde moment. What kind is equivalent to the Abu esprite for boat fishin? He already has a beach caster which he uses on our usual hols to Torquay so I guess that will be coming with us for any breakwater fishin.
