| Re: Catching fish from a balloon I've noticed you never stated the fish had to be HOOK caught so why not attach something like a lightweight lobster pot to the end or eel trap like device ( just thinking of your humping the fish up 3 km dilemma ) plus why not use a trip flare instead of a marker balloon ? __________________ Shore Species 2012: Bugger All !! |

| Re: Catching fish from a balloon well as i said, and back to the auto gas filled balloon. trigger could release all sorts of armourment but the ballon to bring it up is a must. simple fish takes bait. the tug on the line activates balloon. balloon fills with whatever gas that is lighter than atmospheric. you would not need to play the poor thing. one second its eating dinner the next 35000 feet plus. the g force would stun it and at the height you would be you would not need birdseye to mess around with your food. instant scoff delivered by air mail. by the wat. what powers your prop in your sketch |

| Re: Catching fish from a balloon Yeh well ..... Quote:
Helium is an inert gas (much safer for your balloons than hydrogen). Condensing clouds??????? CO2 in a balloon would make it heavier than air and it won't go anywhere. Sarry .... Ada (MSc. Chem) |

| Re: Catching fish from a balloon To see when a fish has taken the bait from your proposed altitude, your indicator balloon would have to be about the circumference of the M25. CO2 would be no good as has already been explained. However, as soon as the fish realises it's been caught, it will no doubt emit Methane, which is another lighter than air gas that could be captured and routed to the balloon? Just a thought __________________ I am in shape. ROUND is a shape! |

| Re: Catching fish from a balloon I've just re-read this whole thread again and I apologise for missing a key bit of information. The whole premise was that the surface of Earth was so hot, at least during the day, that it is uninhabitable to humans. This being the case, CO2 would actually be at or near the point that it would be lighter than the prevailing atmosphere and therefore develop the tendancy to rise. riding in a balloon in these conditions would be an adventure to say the least. During the day you would be at about 18,000ft, but as cooling effects happened you would descend so rapidly your eardrums would disintegrate and unless you had some compensated pressurisation system, so would your lungs. Much as a deep sea dive operation has that potential with our current climatic and temporate pressure equations (both aqueous and gaseous) Still, if there's good fishing to be had it's worth a go huh? __________________ I am in shape.
