I am a beginner and I was just wondering if your line gets tangled together eg the 2 hook flapper

The only time a use rigs without impact shields is when i am fishing closer in for flounder or just scratching for bits.

For long distance casting, a shield or impact lead is a must
a) To be areodynamic for distance
b) To protect the bait especially lug from the impact on entry into the sea.

If you want to add a little distance to your casting then slim your rigs down.
How do these impact shields work? Would a clip not be as good?
