Question Rig suggestions for Sole

Just wondered if anyone has a 'killer rig' for sole - I will be fishing from a boat in the Weston SM area - also any thoughts on hook size? I assume Lug is the beat bait?? Thanks for any suggestions - its my first time after this quarry from a boat!

Don't know about from a boat, but from the shore a two hook flapper with small hooks has done the trick. Also make sure those baits are nailed to the sea bed if you can. Oh, and the bling is optional.

Re: Rig suggestions for Sole

2 hook flapper, size 4 hooks and plenty of sequins & beads. I also stick some small shot weights on the hook length as near to the beads and hook as i can to keep the bait stuck on the bottom. use nice juicy worm baits and change for fresh baits every time you reel in regardless of how untouched your bait looks. the attractive oils and scents do disperse quickly and sole like a fresh smelly bait.

Re: Rig suggestions for Sole

Where you will be fishing best bait will be a few day old lug the smelier the better, a simple uptide rig about 4' of red 20-25lb line as your snood attached to a sixe 2 black hook. Please note fishing in the Bristol Channel is nothing like fishing in the nice 'tideless' waters of the south coast and will be nothing like plaice fishing, use of beads in that area will mean that your rig will become quite likley to be picked up by the chocolate brown tide which will probably running at at leaset 5 knots, hopefullyyou are going on a very small tide or fishing well inshore.

They do have tiny mouths but the bite from a Sole is incredible. They slam the rod tip over, quite amazing for a fish of their size.
I go for lug everytime.
