Snap Swivels sea fishing rigs

Snap Swivels sea fishing rigs

Snap Swivels come in a verity of sizes from the biggest 3/0 to the smallest 16 which is tiny. Snap Swivels are made from various materials from bronze to stainless steel . The common sizes are 1/0 to 4 for sea fishing and when selecting your size just remember what size fish / leads you are using ( just ask on the forum if unsure )

Snap Swivels are designed for quick attatchment and removal of items such as rigs and leads

Snap swivels are a great bit of kit the only slit down side is if your hands are cold or wet they can be a bit fiddly , but to over come this just go up a size or two if fishing in cold / wet conditions

Please post below if you have any questions or advice on using Snap swivels

Re: Snap Swivels sea fishing rigs

Nice one.

Please make sure that if you're going to use Snap Swivels they are of good quality. In the past, I have used ones that can "straighten" under pressure, so if you're going to be power-casting, make sure they're sturdy, or use a split ring instead.

Also, it's worth looking for the ones that have a "catch" mechanism, where the closure is assisted by having a small hook in the metal rather than a straight fastener, I have always felt that these are slightly more secure.

I guess the message would be, if you're going to use these from the beach, make sure it's not for power-casting or heavy leads, they're not really suitable for this sort of thing IMO. Light gear or plopping out, then they're ace. Ideal in the boat too.

Cheers,
JB.

Re: Snap Swivels sea fishing rigs

I use them on the boat and from the shore they haven't let me down so far, but just make sure they are closed before you cast.
