Re: Pennel Rig sea fishing rig

i'm a wrapper myself, alot easier than tube and does the job imo.

i would use the pennel with any large bait, especially whole squid, mackerel fillet, long sandeel and any more than one yellowtail. the second hook increases the chance of hooking with a long/ large bait.

Re: Pennel Rig sea fishing rig

hi jamie,
'pennel' refers to the 2 hooks used in tandem on a snood as shown,
and could be used on any type of rig .

rig body length;- is really up to personal choice, governing factor is the 'drop'
distance between lead and tip eye of rod when casting, coz the top link wont go through the rod eye and you really don't want it to.

maximun for me is about 5 ft,
i never measure exact dimentions when rig building ,

usually 3-4ft bodys , and as i usually fish pulley rigs, rig body = about 1 inch longer than the snood.

Hi

Thanks for reply, when you say snood,is this the line that comes off the body of the rig to house the hooks...

Many thanks Jamie

yep, snood= hook length, line between hook and rig body.

if you are useing a pennel i'd guess that your targeting something big with large baits?
long light line snoods are prone to tangle , i'm useing 40-50lb snoods at the moment , these tend not to tangle and are good for preventing spider crabs nicking yer hook and bait,
as i usually night fish for smutts/ray and bass this helps but if fishing in daylight or for smaller species i'd drop to 30lb as the heavy line may put off the bass , i'd just have to put up with the extra tangles and missing hooks,

good luck, gj.
