Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

i have got one , that is like a pulley rig , first you tie a sliding swivel to a weight , then on the main line you put the sliding swivel on it , tie another swivel ( fixed ) to stop the sliding swivel coming off , and on the fixed swivel , have about 50 lb line , coming down with a mustad ultimate bass hook , about sixe 2 .. i know its a lot to take in .

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

Thats a running ledger trigger.
The advantage of the pulley over that rig is the pulley can be clipped down to enable further casting and stop the bait being smashed up during the cast.

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

i usually fish two rods one with a three hook cascade that always gets plenty of codling and the other has a pennal pully rig on. i load the pully with plenty of rag and a slither of squid on the second hook which i tie with elastic then clip down to the bait shield and BANG get it right out there ready for the big uns!!! top rigs i dont bother making them anymore i buy them on e bay you get five for three and a half quid. as david dickinson would say (CHEAP AS CHIPS!!!)

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

Hi, I'm new to these forums and have just been looking at this rig. I have seen illistrations in the past but never used one.
My question is this: Shock leader is used to compensate for the extra strain put on the line at the start of a cast. I can see that you have shock leader up to the swivel. But if you have got just trace fror the pulley side of the rig isn't that a weak link i.e casting a 4oz weight I would use 40lb leader and I would want to use something like a 15lb flouro trace. If I tied the 4oz wieght to the trace then the leader is prettty much useless is it not?
Sorry if I missed something here on the diagram. Just a bit confused now.

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

Hi, I am a novice too, but the pulley rig was shown me by a friendly tackle shop man,

the hook to bead line was 15LB and was shorter than the bead to weight line which was 60lb shock leader too.

this way the shock leader, the swivel and the bead to weight line are the ones taking the casting force, the bead to hook line is only taking the weight of your bait on casting, the version I was shown also had a swivel between the 15 LB and the 60 LB lines where just a bead is shown in the diagram. It had a bead each end of the 60LB line to protect the knots.

Hope that makes sense

Mike

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

As Mithrandril says, the 'shock is taken by the bead against the swivel, the way to make them is to make it all except the hook length, hang the rig up so the bead stops on the swivel, then tie your hook length on to another swivel or clip below the bead (not shown on the diagram - or make up several with the tiny clips you can get with various hooks & sizes).
Use a moveable bait guard at the bottom so you can make small adjustments up or down as its sods law you will never get the hook length spot on.
So - the strain of the cast is the - Shockleader > Swivel > bead > rig body (same stength or as the shock) > weight. No strain is then placed on the 15lb etc hook length.
I hope I have explained myself !

Re: Pulley Rigs - Sea Fishing Rigs

Hello,
I live in Seattle WA and am an avid sea angler. I like the ideas of rigs that I see here. I am having a hard time finding bait sheilds here in the US. Does anyone know of a US distributor of Gemini products, or have an idea on how to make one myself?? Thanks
