Briad and its problems

Just bought a new spinning rod and I've invested in some braid.

Problem is that I keep getting tangles in the line when I'm casting. Not a problem I've had before with mono, but it seems braid is very susceptible.

Am I doing something wrong or is something that comes with the use of braid.

Re: Briad and its problems

I have troubles with "air knots" with braid, use it for spinning sometimes. I have found wetting the line, usually by pouring water(fresh) over the reel. seems to help.

Re: Briad and its problems

braid is not the best line to put on a fixed spool reel as it tents to bite in on its self at the frount and back of the spool and catch up when you cast. I think mono is much better on fixed spool reels

Re: Briad and its problems

I started using braid on my spinning outfit end of last year and found I had the same problems...In the main this when I was trying a bit too hard or being a little creative with my casting. Keeping everything smooth and non technical seemed to improve things.

Re: Briad and its problems

Yeah wind knots are a pain but easy to stop.

They're caused by over-filling the spool. Braid comes off the spool differently to mono. If you spool as you would with mono (right up to the lip) then you will get knots with braid when you cast.

You have to underfill the spool. Leave a bit of the lip showing.

Have a look at this http://henry-gilbey.blogspot.com/200...ith-braid.html

Re: Briad and its problems

Having knot free casting now by just taking the simple step of underfilling my spool. Using braid has taken a bit of getting used to but by only filling half the spool I've removed the problem

Re: Briad and its problems

I soak the braid in fresh water over night before i spool up then try to spool up tight as possible and don't over fill the spool.First time out with it try a few short casts just to bed it in then you SHOULD have no more problems.
