Re: flattie rigs ?

Hi Daniel. The flatfish are probably feeding on lugworm which may be living on the sandbars at the mouth of the river. If the river itself contains mud then there are going to be ragworm present aswell.
Therefore it is quite important to try and feed the fish with what the expect to find. Next time you fish there take some lugworm or ragworm.
A simple rig is absolutely fine when fishing for flatfish. They are greedy and if left to gobble the bait for a few mins will always hook themselves (so dont strike as soon as you get a bite!).
When using small lugworm or ragworm baits use a size 1 or 2 hook. These will be ideal for the flatfish and will also handle small bass which are probably there.
You can use a rig with 2 hooks or just 1. A simple paternoster is ideal. Try and use a plain bomb which can roll 'slowly' along the seabed - pick a weight that rolls nice and slow - too fast and you wont get bites.
Beads and Sequins are very popular for flatfish - just ask pingupprogress! lol
The flatfish will eat other foods - as you have discovered. But more often than not matching your bait to the natural food found at the mark will give good results. Once you have cracked that task you can start experimenting with different baits and cocktails (two or more different baits on a hook).
But one step at a time mate! Just try lug or rag, pick your tide and get out there!

Hope this helps

Welcome to the forum Daniel!

The baits i have had good results on are lug and rag, like Juan has said and I use a 2 hook paternoster. Good luck
