Advantages of triple swivel over single clipped?

I have noticed on this forum that alot of people use single swivels with beads like this..

the way ive learned from local fishermen is by using a triple swivel like this...

Are there any advantages/disadvantages of using either method? or is it just a matter of preferance?

thanks

Re: Advantages of triple swivel over single clipped?

The whole principle of the single trapped swivel is the 'helicopter rig' developed for carp fishing. It certainly allows untangling in the tide or when a fish is used as bait or hooked.

The fixed three-way swivel is not nearly as effective, but has its uses as a simple paternoster especially when used over rocky ground with a weak link bottom and heavy snoods.

Velas offer a (Varivas?) three-way swivel which seems to incorporate the best of both -

My match rigs incorporate a trapped single swivel and a short piece of 1mm tubing over the lower part of the swivel.

Hmm, you seem to be speaking a different language there mate. Ive learned to fish mostley from Spanish and Portugese fellows and that terminology is alien...

Anyone care to translate?

Paternoster (Good ole' Bert!) - hooks attached above the lead ....
single hook paternoster might be rigged as follows (for distance casting, it's clipped behind the impact shield)

A weak link/rotton bottom is for fishing 'in the rocks' when it's better to sacrifice the lead alone, rather than the whole rig.

or simpler still -

I call it a Kid Rig only because I get guys to tie them for the kiddies day each year on South Parade Pier, Southsea.

OK???

Hey I like the idea of using a old spark plug, must take a trip to my repair garage, and get a few help to recoupe the cost of the repairs they have charged me for.

Thanks for the translation Gremlin

I can just picture your local fishing spot, dozens of spark plugs stuck at the bottom!
