| Re: Fishing Rigs - Making you own Fishing Rigs i started off buying all my rigs but i found 2 main probs with this, 1 is that you can never get what you really want and 2 is they are so exxpencive i then started making my own rigs im my experience you can never have to many hooks, line, beads, swivels etc... evrytime i go in the tackel shop i buy more hooks and get home only to find i still dont have what i really need as for line, i started off using the cheapest i could find but was having probs with knots on that so now i use memorex must have rigs are, simple 1 hook rig (can never have to many and usualy seem to outfish my other rigs) but somehow i never seem to have any 2 hook boom rigs (very useful for close work) wishbone rig pennel rigs, can hook both large and small fish on any size bait, brillient fish catcher a good thing to remember when 1st starting making rigs is to start simple and then get more complex and make sure youu are willing to spend money on stuff you need like swivels (can be expencive when 1st starting and also if a compulsive spender like me) hope this helps any1 starting rig building, can be great fun __________________ Bens The Name And Catchings The Game Anti the Anti's |

| Re: Fishing Rigs - Making you own Fishing Rigs my rig wallet consists of; one-hook clipped rigs (for long range, big bait normally with pennell) two hook clipped up rig (for long range, small fish - hooks are clipped upwards to stop wormbaits being blasted up the snood during the cast) two hook boomed rigs (good for close range scratching and estuary work - brilliant on piers aswell ) bomber rigs (allows a short snood and a very long snood normally clipped for distance) wishbone rigs (good scratching rig - allows two different baits to be fished next to each other) pulley rigs (rough ground, big fish - clipped for distance) as far as components go i am like ben and prefer to get too much! critical components i think are; 60lb Suffix 15lb Amnesia 20lb Amnesia 30lb Amnesia (i normally use clear just incase!) QF Swivels (male and female to allow quick rig changes when double-patting) Breakaway Escape Links (for rotten bottom rigs) Breakaway Fast Links (for link to lead) Impact Shields Relay Clips (for clipping hooks or flowing snoods) Size 10 swivels Size 8 Snood swivels Sequins or beads Drennan Medium Copper Crimps (or cheap equivalent preferably!) Neoprene Tubing or Rubber Tubing And then I like Mustad Vikings for heavy work and Kamasan Aberdeens for match work. Dont forget a pair of crimping pliers - they only cost about a fiver. |

| Re: Fishing Rigs - Making you own Fishing Rigs i use my leather man for crimping n cutting n evrything on rigs, just the trick cause of the needel nose pliers another must have which i have only recently found out about is shrink rapping tubing stuff (normaly used for electronics) use it for pennel rigs, hold a lighter under it for abit n it shrinks around the hook and line and is brillient, comes in all different sizes __________________ Bens The Name And Catchings The Game Anti the Anti's |

| Re: Fishing Rigs - Making you own Fishing Rigs Tell ya what I've started going..........when making my rigs up, I now leave the snoods and hooks off!! This allows me to attach what I actually want at different venues. What do you think? __________________ Kia ora / Dia dhuit. - Matauranga kei ana kaha. | Re: Fishing Rigs - Making you own Fishing Rigs Dont think i have ever brought a made up rig before! been making my own or borowed them off a mate when i first started and after a year or so i managed to get quite good at making them for diferent venues and fish and didnt feel buying them was the right way to go about it!! your not wrong about leaving the snoods off till you set up as they are a bit of a pain in the butt when they get twisted up and you have to take five mins sorting em out!! i now have three rig wallets full up so i dont need to swop and change them from bag to box and that when planing a trip!!! |
