Best rig to use for Lures Hi, Went Spinning last night and was using a dextor wedge and also tried some diving lures for bass but felt I needed to add some weight on as could not cast out that far.... What rigs could I make up that would suit these types of lures to add some weight on? Would a pulley rig be ok for using lures? Many Thanks in advance Matt

Re: Best rig to use for Lures If you are using dexters or diving plugs then no further weight should be added. You should be able to get a plug out 40m or so with a decent spinning rod. A 10ft rod + is best. If you want to fish deep and at distance then try a deep fished sandeel or rubber eel / jelly worm. Simple rig, shockleader (clear), slide on weight (ball weight less wobble and twist or a 3oz/4oz pear weight), slide on a bead, tie on a swivel and then 4 to 6 ft trace. Finish with a storm eel, jelly or frozen sandeel. Cast to the horizon and wind it back in slowly. Bang!!! Probably more pollock will hit this than bass but who knows.

Have dived the coast south for 30 years and found that most of the bass are close in if feeding. Some times we have come accross large shoals waiting just behind breakers sometimes only 5 to 6 ft out. Best in breakers where the fish dive into the surf to get the sandeels. If you do catch move on as thats what the bass do. Fish along and over the surf walking as you wind. If you catch then dont your walking in the wrong direction. As a norm they swim toward the current using their senses to smell out the next meal- meals

Re: Best rig to use for Lures I fish lures almost exclusively, for black bass, yellow perch, and sunfish in American waters. I've found that spinning and baitcast gear works best for lures, and that the longer the rod, the longer the casting distance. Additionally, the more eyelets for the line to pass through, the longer the casting distance. I also like a larger first eyelet from the reel on spinning rods. Realistically, you chould be able to get divers, topwaters, and swimbaits out there 30-40 meters. __________________ 2012 species: 13 All-time species: 65 New species caught in 2012: white sucker, popeye shiner, white shiner

![]() I'm with Gilbo Matt.. anything further than about 40 yards is too far and as said most of the time the fish are at your feet ( something i need to remember ) __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
