Dover breakwater on Wednesday

Hi all

I have managed to get a week off work and convince the missus to let me go on a few fishing trips and am now going to Dover breakwater on wednesday. Can anyone give me any advice on where to fish as i here there is a good end? I have never fished it before and wondered what i may catch at this time of year and also wondered if the tide runs like a pig like it does on the Addy. Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers all

Joe

Good luck Joe.

I think Fishypaul and Creedy have fished it a few times, sure one of them will be along to help soon.

Re: Dover breakwater on Wednesday

I fished it a few months back - the knuckle is a good peg & the low pegged numbers (all painted on the concrete floor) are also good.
The tide does run like a steam train at HW - generally a normal breakaway weight will hold untill the tide runs then I used uptide weights to good effect - held in all but the strongest flow. The other odd thing is the flow switches L-R and R-L at a moments notice - difficult to know when ...
You can also catch right down the wall close in and when you cant hold bottom in the tide, switch over & fish the inner wall (behind you) but can be very snaggy .... hope that helps ...

Re: Dover breakwater on Wednesday

hello mate,
the breakwater is a wonderful fishing platform which is only reachable by boat, the good thing about this is that you have no problems with pedestrians and kids up and down all day, ( an age limit applies )
the boat will drop you off at the western end which is number 213,this end is often the busiest as many people are not prepared to walk far, this end is often a good end for pollack and bass,
as maghouse has already stated the tides are incredibly strong at times but you do have the luxury of fishing into the harbour when the tide on the outside is unfishable, although as already said it can be very snaggy.
the wall can produce codling all year round with pouting as usual dogfish seem to be a regular feature now, sometimes reaching plague proportions, put a bit of squid on and you will get a doggie.
flatties are often good sport on the inner wall with the low numbers often favoured,
pollack and scad should still be about ,they are usually best caught on maddies down the wall on french boom type traces.
the beauty of this place is that you are fishing into very deep water and surprises come up regularly,
one thing you need to be aware of is the weather,if the shipping forecast in the morning mentions a force 5 or above the boats won't go out,bit of a let down i know, but there are 2 other piers in dover to fish if that happens.
hope you have a good day mate,if you need any more info,(parking or tackle shops etc ) don't hesitate to give me a shout
