Saturday bash at the Black Wall

Saturday - a day of great expectation for me and Bluesbro! England Qtr Final and a trip to try the warrens black-wall.

We solved the tricky problem of how to keep bait fresh all day and night with temperatures hitting 31c by using a big coolbag full of ice (thanks goes to Folkestone harbour fishmonger) which we kept in the car boot (parked in a cool indoor car park)

Onwards to the pub to watch the game - DAMN! - we left 3 sheets to the wind - discussing how long Sven and Ronaldo would smile or wink if we connected their wet nuts to a car battery.

Trudged what seemed miles along the warren sea wall loaded with fishing and camping gear till we reached the black wall - where we set up our tent

High tide was around 04:00 so we had time to cremate some sausages on the BBQ then get down to the beach (low water) to do some covert fishing with carp rods and light running ledger gear. For those who dont know the black-wall, this is somewhat perillous in the dark because the route to the beach requires scrambling over 50 yds of rock scree then watching the incoming tide which likes to sneak round the rock scree and leave you stranded on the sand with a nice big wall for company.

Seems we had a large population of pouting with us - cos thats what we got as soon as the bait hit the water.

With the tide coming in close it was time to beat a hasty retreat to the safety of the wall and get the beachcasters set up. We soon discovered that the colony of pout still liked our bait and appreciated the varied menu i,e, rag, lug, squid, sandeel and crab. But as luck would have it I finally got me a smallish sole

this was followed by a young bass

Whilst Bluesbro was still entertaining the pout community with free food.

By high tide the pout were checking out the restaurant and we were ready for bed.

The final twist in the expedition was waking up to discover nude people walking past the tent heading towards the nudist beach next door.

All in all - Good Fun!

Re: Saturday bash at the Black Wall

I might like to add that i was at a extream disadvantage due to the fact that baitcaster forgot to put me in 2 beachcasters so i was down to 1 rod! I could have beaten my all time record for pout that eve if i had had my other rod!!!

Was a good laugh just wish i had hooked into a decent fish, still a night away from the women is not to be grumbled about

Will have to give it a bash again soon old chap!

We didnt have any problems with people disturbing us in the morning so i would give it a go. Just make sure you pack your gear and put it in the tent just to be safe. The sole and bass came on lug worm, one tipped with squid! There was a lot of sandeel washing up on the beach at low water so it might be worth giving them a bash as well. We tried with only pout eating them but on another night who knows?

Let us all how you get on mate!
