Lazer quay Gillingham 02-01-2012

Well I thought I would get the first trip of the year in last night so I rang my mate Noel and my old man and we decided to give the Medway a bash.

I had a load of black lug in the freezer, at various staged of mankyness lol, and half a box of squid so I thought that I would see if I could get any flounder. Knocked up a couple of wishbone rigs with size 2 fine wires and added a single snood on the top making it a 3 hook trace.

Arrived at the Quay at 5pm fished up and over H/W. The wind was bitter cold and was gaining in strength through the evening so packed up and headed home at 10:00

Not much about, I had a 3brd rockling and a whiting for my troubles and my Dad and mate had a whiting each.

The blokes that were fishing just down the quay from us had caught nothing between 4 of them so we didn`t do to bad (although they were using rusty 4/0 ish hooks )

I good thing to come was meeting someone called Trevor, he came down to see how the fishing was doing and told us about his mate who was running a small boat out of gillingham pier. £150 a trip with a max number of 5 on the boat, 12 hour trips with dinner thrown in n all!!! Result, I have had too many trips cancelled because of the numbers being unreliable so me and noel are gonna go £75 each and get the boat to ourselves. Problem solved!!

Overall the fishing was not very productive but I got to see Noel and my old man for a few hours, and I made a dent in my old black lug supplies so I can`t grumble.

Thinking about trying a new venue next. Greys wharf in Essex. been throwing out a few codling recently, think I`ll wait for the weather to get better first though

Tight Lines

Joe

That's a nice report Joe and a nice three bearder too. Just where precisely is Lazer Quay? Is it the one near the Rochester town bridge? Can you tell me please how do you get there and where can you park? Kind regards. John R.

Re: Lazer quay Gillingham 02-01-2012

Of course I can Dadwood!! It is in the Medway city estate and you are fishing out of the car park of some industrial units. You can park next to your car and fish in comfort so it is ideal if their is the chance of rough weather or if you don`t fancy a long walk. There is streetlighting at night and railings for safety so it is also a good spot to take young anglers for easy, safe fishing.

I will try and give a link to google maps location..... (not working )

http://www.hplccourses.com/images/MCEMap.jpg

The red circle is for a unit in lazer quay, to the left of that circle you can see the carpark, park up and fish in the rigt hand corner of the waterfront for deeper water. This is also fishable at low water but again only in the right hand corner of the water front, because it get dreddged for the occasional ship that comes in.

Hope this helps, anything else you want to know Dadwood, just ask. If you want a trip sometime I could perhaps meet you down there

Regards

Joe

Re: Lazer quay Gillingham 02-01-2012

It seems the Google maps link wont work. If you put into google maps Lazer quay, medway city estate then it will give you directions, or if you are farmiliar with the area I can direct you there?

Regards

Joe

Nice one Joe, get a lot of rockling down this way and quite often they have saved me from a blank.
Not picking fault or anything mate and i know the colour does vary a lot but could that not be a shore rockling instead of a 3 beard? They also have 3 beards but dont grow quite as big.
Just wondering as the 3 beards i get here all have quite distinctive spots on them, tell me to shut up if i,m being an anorak lol

Re: Lazer quay Gillingham 02-01-2012

They have similar colour to the shore rockling, there's a couple of 3 beards in my album which have much more of a red/orange colour.
Good one for the species hunt, well done

Nice report, with the rockling in it looks like the quiet months have arrived. Still, bet it was good to get out!

Thumbs up Re: Lazer quay Gillingham 02-01-2012

Used to get loads of Whiting from the Medway when I lived at Chattenden. Plenty of big flounder too, but the flounder were never good eating. Their flesh was always very grey & tasted horrible. Almost as though they were contaminated with chemicals. Mind you, that was back in the 1980s, maybe things have improved.
