Surfs up at Dengemarsh 27-11-11

Well after reading a post on here about peoples fond memories of fishing with their old man, I rang my Dad and nagged him into agreeing to a trip with me yesterday at Folkestone. 1st trip with him in over a year.............

Or so i thought.......... Phone rings at 8am the next morning, poor sod has got a nasty cough and not had any sleep so he wouldn`t be coming. He aplologised about a 100 times and said that I could come and get the bait from him and I should still go without him. I declined and told him to freeze it for another weekend as I still wanted my trip out with him with that wished him well.

Now what?, Hight water is at 12:00 and there has been a S/W blowing hard all night and it`s still going now. I know its gotta be Dungeness!!!!! A quick ring around to aquire some more bait and it was ON. Rang an old work mate and he agreed to a trip so off we went.

Well we got down the point after a picking the bait up and the key at robertsons and then made our way round to the point......... It was PACKED!!! Shoulder to shoulder as far as the eye could see!!! Sod this we thought and after a quick chat with a few of the anglers who had all only had whiting we decided to fish round Dengemarsh instead.

We arrived at Dengemarsh and it was almost face on to the SW wind, massive surf running but an empty beach. Decided to walk back towards Dungeness a bit and got started




Glad I had a long rod cos the breakers must have bee a good 5-6 ft tall at times but the water was dirty so still optimistic. I was thinking this looks quite bassy so i fised at cloase range with cocktails of black lug, squid and razor fish. Caught loads of whiting and then at dusk this little beauty jumped on the hook



Weighed in at a touch over 2lb but I was quite chuffed to have caught him. Thats dinner for tomorrow I thought.

After that it was whiting, whiting and more whiting, once darkness came they came in plague amounts, and were all small so we fished till about 8pm and then headed home.

All in all a good trip, still got half box of squid left and a score and a half of lug left, plus the 4 score that dad brought so I feel another trip coming soon

Now off to cook my bass for tea.....
