Folkestone Rotunda Beach 18-11-2011

After a trip up the town with the wife I found my way into the bait shop and impulse buying 2 score of blow lug. I wasn`t planning on going fishing but I couldn`t resist the urge to wet a line so it was going to be one of those rushed trips.

I get home and then I find out the wind is blowing S/E and I would be fishing over low water so the only place I can think of that will fish well would be Deal. Back home, dinner munched and on the road.

Well half way down the M20 I hit a big traffic jam that had held me up for 1 & 1/2 hours and I got diverted through Ashford which probably cost me another 20 mins, things were not going well and after finding my way back to the next junction of the motorway I managed to go a few more junctions before getting diverted off again!!! This time roadworks had me heading through Folkestone so I had decided that was that and I had had enough of being in the car!!

Decided to fish the Rotunda Beach, in front of the Leas Cliff Cabel Cars. It was a new spot I had never fished before so I was unsure of what it would hold.

Stayed for 4 hours, using a 5/0, 4/0 pennel pulley and was using blow and squid. Caught some doggies and a huge pouting, along with some rocks!!! Also had a big bite that took the rod of the stand but failed to hook!!! Bass most probably, there was a big surf running.

Will defonatley give it another bash soon I think. In reality I was fishing in the wrong wind and with the wrong bait for that area so to still come away with fish was good. Added bonus was the car is only 30 yards away and even though it was a friday night I didn`t se a soul all night !

Bout 1 & 1/2 lb more like one you would catch of a boat

That sounds like a good session Joe, especially after all the problems you had getting there. I've fished that beach no more that half a dozen times but each time the weed presented major agro. Kind regards.

I will have to keep that in mind for the future trips, I never fished that end of the beach before, always on the pier or right next to it. I didn`t have a single bit of weed to worry about, maybe it would have came on the top of the tide if I had stayed longer.

always big pout there mate, and some nice cods when there about, also some big edible crabs appear on ocassion, got a comp there on 10th Dec, so joping for a good night then

How snaggy is it round there? I lost a set of gear but kept finding rough patches that I had to pull through. Is it a rocky bottom venue or was I just in a dodgy spot??

ya have to keep moving till you find clean ground, closer to the piers sipposed to be better
